To deactivate your Facebook account temporarily, follow these steps:
- Open the Facebook app or go to Facebook on your browser.
- Click or tap on your profile picture to open the menu.
- Go to Settings & Privacy > Settings.
- In the left pane, select Accounts Centre (or "Meta Accounts Center").
- Choose Personal details.
- Select Account ownership and control.
- Click or tap on Deactivation or deletion.
- Select Deactivate account and then Continue.
- Enter your Facebook password when prompted.
- Choose a reason for deactivating your account and follow the prompts.
- If you want to keep using Messenger, check the option to continue using Messenger.
- Confirm by selecting Deactivate my account.
Your Facebook profile will be hidden, and your name and photos will be removed from most places, but Messenger can still be used if you choose
. To reactivate your account, simply log back into Facebook with your credentials, and your profile will be restored as it was before deactivation
. This process is temporary and different from deleting your account permanently, which removes all your data and cannot be undone after 30 days
