Zeus's mother is Rhea, a Titaness and mother goddess in Greek mythology. She is the daughter of the earth goddess Gaia and the sky god Uranus. Rhea was married to Cronus, her brother, who swallowed their children at birth to prevent a prophecy that one would overthrow him. To save Zeus, Rhea hid him in a cave on the island of Crete and gave Cronus a stone wrapped in swaddling clothes to swallow instead.
