As of early 2025, Voyager 1 is in interstellar space, having crossed the heliopause on August 25, 2012, making it the first human-made object to enter this region beyond the Sun's influence

. It is currently about 167.34 astronomical units (AU) from Earth, which is roughly 25 billion kilometers (15.6 billion miles)

. Voyager 1 is traveling at about 1 million miles per day as it continues its journey outward from the solar system

. Recently, after experiencing technical issues starting in November 2023 that caused it to send corrupted data, NASA engineers successfully restored Voyager 1 to full operational status by April 2024. They identified a problem in the flight data subsystem and managed to work around it by relocating corrupted code within the spacecraft's memory. By mid-2024, all four of Voyager 1's science instruments were fully functional again, and it resumed sending valuable scientific data back to Earth

. Voyager 1 continues to transmit data about the interstellar medium, including plasma waves, magnetic fields, and particles, contributing unique information from beyond the solar system. Its mission is expected to continue returning scientific data until at least 2025, potentially up to 2030, depending on power availability
