Georgia tax rebates for 2025, which are one-time surplus tax refunds, began issuing in early June 2025. These rebates are being issued to taxpayers who filed their 2023 and 2024 state income tax returns on time by May 1, 2025. The rebate amounts vary depending on filing status:
- $250 for single filers and married filing separately
- $375 for heads of household
- $500 for married couples filing jointly
Payments are being processed through direct deposit or paper checks based on taxpayers' refund preferences, with the Department of Revenue advising a 6-8 week wait period after the May 1 filing deadline for processing. By early August 2025, over 90% of the expected refunds had already been issued. Taxpayers who filed for an extension can expect refunds later, around October 2025. The rebates are part of a $1 billion surplus being returned to Georgia residents, following legislative approval and Governor Kemp's support. They are also exempt from state taxes, although any outstanding debts to the state may reduce the rebate amount accordingly. Taxpayers can check the status of their rebate via the Georgia Tax Center website using their Social Security number and federal adjusted gross income from their 2023 return.
