when was bin laden killed

Osama bin Laden was killed on May 2, 2011, in Abbottabad, Pakistan. He was shot by U.S. Navy SEALs during a raid on his compound in a mission called Operation Neptune Spear, which was authorized by President Barack Obama. The operation took place shortly after 1:00 AM local time in Pakistan. Following the raid, bin Laden's body was taken for identification and then buried at sea according to Islamic customs within 24 hours of his death.
