The section of a tennis court used when playing doubles includes the entire court width of 36 feet (10.97 meters). This is wider than the singles court, which is 27 feet (8.23 meters) wide. The additional area on each side of the singles court is called the "doubles alley" or "tramlines," which is 4.5 feet (1.37 meters) wide on each side. This doubles alley is used only in doubles matches, expanding the court's width and allowing for more space for volleys and angled shots. The length of the court remains the same for both singles and doubles at 78 feet (23.77 meters). So, when playing doubles, players use the entire court including the doubles alleys on the sides, which are outside the singles sidelines but inside the doubles sidelines.
