To use Flonase nasal spray effectively, follow these steps:
- Prime the spray (if new or unused for a week or more):
- Shake the bottle gently.
- Remove the green cap.
- Aim the nozzle away from your face and press the spray pump until a fine mist appears (usually 1-6 pumps). If no mist appears after six pumps, clean the nozzle before use
- Prepare your nose:
- Gently blow your nose to clear your nostrils
- Spray the medication:
- Close one nostril by pressing it with your finger.
- Insert the tip of the nozzle into the other nostril, aiming slightly away from the center (toward the side of the nostril, not the septum).
- While sniffing gently, press down on the spray pump once or twice according to your dosage. Avoid spraying into your eyes.
- Exhale through your mouth
- Repeat in the other nostril.
- Clean up:
- Wipe the nozzle with a clean tissue and replace the green cap
Dosage guidelines:
- Adults: Use two sprays in each nostril once daily for the first week, then one or two sprays once daily as needed. Do not exceed recommended dosage
- Children 4-11 years: One spray in each nostril once daily under adult supervision
- Children 12 and older: Use adult dosage
Additional tips:
- Keep your head upright while spraying; do not lean back to avoid the medicine running down your throat
- Use Flonase regularly for best results; it may take several days to feel relief
Cleaning the nozzle:
- Remove the nozzle, rinse under running water, dry, and replace. Avoid using sharp objects to unclog
This method ensures proper delivery of Flonase for allergy relief
