To make a Nether Portal in Minecraft, follow these steps:
- Gather Materials :
- You need at least 10 Obsidian blocks. Obsidian is created when water touches a lava source block and can only be mined with a Diamond or Netherite pickaxe.
- You also need Flint and Steel to light the portal, crafted from one iron ingot and one piece of flint
- Build the Portal Frame :
- Construct a vertical rectangular frame using Obsidian blocks.
- The minimum size is 4 blocks tall and 5 blocks wide (including corners), but corners are optional, so you can build the frame with just 10 blocks (2 vertical columns of 4 blocks each and 2 horizontal blocks at the top and bottom)
* The frame can be larger, up to 23x23 blocks, but the basic portal uses the minimum size
- Activate the Portal :
- Use Flint and Steel to ignite the inside of the frame by right-clicking on one of the bottom inner blocks.
- The portal will activate with a purple swirling field inside the frame
- Alternative Method (Speedrunner’s Way) :
- Instead of mining Obsidian, you can create the frame by placing lava source blocks and then pouring water over them to turn the lava into Obsidian in the exact shape needed.
- This method requires a lava pool, a water bucket, and an empty bucket to place lava and water strategically to form the frame blocks.
- After forming the frame, light it with Flint and Steel to activate
- Using the Portal :
- Stand inside the activated portal for a few seconds to be transported to the Nether dimension.
- Carry Flint and Steel to relight the portal if it deactivates
This process lets you access the Nether, a dimension with unique resources like blaze rods, nether quartz, and netherite, essential for progressing in the game
. Summary:
- Minimum 10 Obsidian blocks (without corners)
- Frame size: 4 blocks tall x 5 blocks wide
- Use Flint and Steel to light the portal
- Alternative: create Obsidian frame using lava and water buckets
- Enter portal to travel to the Nether
