How to Play Monopoly Deal
Objective:
Be the first player to collect three full property sets of different colors.
Setup
- Remove the 4 "Quick Start Rules" cards from the deck and keep them for reference.
- Shuffle the remaining cards thoroughly.
- Deal 5 cards to each player face down. Players keep their cards secret.
- Place the rest of the deck face down in the center as the draw pile.
- Decide who goes first; play proceeds clockwise
Game Play
On Your Turn:
- Draw Cards: Draw 2 cards from the draw pile and add them to your hand.
- If you start your turn with no cards, draw 5 instead
- Play Cards: You may play up to 3 cards from your hand per turn. You can choose to play fewer or none. Cards can be played in any combination of the following ways:
- Put Money or Action Cards into your Bank: Place these cards face up in front of you in your bank pile. Money in your bank is used to pay other players. Action cards played as money count as money for the rest of the game
* **Lay Down Property Cards:** Place property cards face up in front of you, organized by color sets. There is no limit to how many properties you can have. Wild property cards can be used as any color and can be rearranged on your turn
* **Play Action Cards:** Play action cards to perform their instructions (e.g., charge rent, steal properties, demand money). Once played, action cards go to the discard pile after their effect
- Discard Excess Cards: At the end of your turn, if you have more than 7 cards in your hand, discard down to 7 cards
Important Rules
- Cards played cannot be taken back into your hand.
- You pay other players using cards in your bank or property sets, not cards in your hand.
- No change is given when paying; if you owe 2M and pay with a 3M card, the extra 1M is lost.
- If you cannot pay, you must pay with properties if possible, which then become the other player's property.
- If you have no cards or money in play, you do not have to pay
