To descale your Nespresso Vertuo machine, follow these steps:
- Prepare the machine:
- Remove any capsules and empty the capsule container and drip tray.
- Fill the water tank with a mixture of one Nespresso descaling solution sachet and about 0.6 liters (17 ounces) of fresh water.
- Make sure there are no capsules in the machine. Close and lock the machine head, then turn the machine on and wait for the light to become steady.
- Enter descaling mode:
- Unlock the lever with the head closed.
- Press and hold the button for approximately 7 seconds until the light turns off and then starts blinking rapidly in orange.
- Lock and unlock the lever again, then press and hold the button for another 7 seconds until it blinks quickly in orange again.
- Lock the lever. The light blinking rapidly orange confirms the machine is in descaling mode.
- Start descaling:
- Place a container (minimum capacity 1 liter/34 ounces) under the coffee outlet to catch the liquid.
- Press the button once to start the descaling process. The machine will dispense the descaling solution in intervals and pause between cycles.
- Rinse:
- When the descaling solution has run through, empty and rinse the container.
- Remove and rinse the water tank thoroughly, then fill it with fresh water.
- Place the container back and press the button to start the rinse cycle.
- Finish:
- Once the rinse cycle completes, the light will turn solid white, indicating descaling is done.
- Clean the drip tray, capsule container, and any removable parts.
It is recommended to descale your Nespresso Vertuo machine every three months or after about 300 capsules have been brewed to maintain optimal performance. These steps align with the official Nespresso Vertuo Next descaling guide and videos demonstrating the process.
