how many stanley cups are there

There are actually three Stanley Cups:

1. The original 1892 bowl called the "Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup," which is now kept in the Vault Room at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. It was awarded to champions until 1970.
2. The "Presentation Cup," created in 1963 as a duplicate because the original was becoming too fragile. This is the Cup currently awarded to NHL champions and used for promotions.
3. The "Replica Cup," made in 1993 as an exact duplicate of the Presentation Cup, used at the Hockey Hall of Fame when the Presentation Cup isn't available for display.

So, while there is only one Stanley Cup awarded each year to the NHL champion, there exist three physical versions of the Cup for different purposes and preservation. The current Presentation Cup is the one most people see during celebrations and events.
