Jamie kills his biological father, Garrett Randall, in the show "Yellowstone" to prove his loyalty to the Dutton family, who adopted and raised him. Despite beginning to flourish under his biological father's guidance, Jamie discovers that Garrett harbors deep resentment and hatred towards the Duttons, even conspiring to have them killed to clear the way for Jamie's rise. Faced with this manipulation and the threat Garrett poses to the Duttons—and to his own standing—Jamie chooses to kill his biological father as an attempt to solidify his allegiance and reclaim his place within the Dutton family. However, this act of murder also leaves Jamie vulnerable to blackmail by his sister Beth, who uses evidence of the killing to control him. Thus, Jamie's killing of his dad is both to save himself and to prove his loyalty to the family that raised him, despite the personal costs involved.
