Jews do not believe Jesus is the Messiah mainly because he did not fulfill the messianic prophecies expected in Judaism. They anticipated a Messiah who would be a political and military leader, a descendant of David, who would free the Jewish people from Roman rule, rebuild the Jerusalem Temple, bring world peace, gather the Jewish diaspora back to Israel, and establish a kingdom on earth. Jesus did not accomplish these tangible, earthly acts during his lifetime, which led most Jews to reject his claim as the Messiah. Additionally, the Jewish faith strictly holds to the belief in a singular God, making the Christian concept of Jesus as divine or part of a Trinity incompatible and idolatrous from their perspective. Jews also see Jesus as one of many false claimants to the Messiah title in history, rather than fulfilling the concrete prophetic criteria laid out in their scriptures.
