The main reasons for persistent sneezing include allergies (such as pollen, dust mites, pet dander, mold), irritants in the environment (like smoke, strong odors, pollution, perfumes), viral infections (such as the common cold or flu), and non-allergic rhinitis triggered by sensitivities to things like spicy foods, temperature changes, or hormonal shifts. Other causes can be nasal polyps or structural issues in the nose. Sneezing is a natural reflex to clear irritants or infections from the nasal passages and can be triggered by the irritation of the mucous membranes in the nose or throat. Sneezing helps expel these irritants but keeps happening if the cause remains present or untreated. Some people may also have a photic sneeze reflex, where exposure to bright light can cause sneezing.
