Aaron Rodgers changed his jersey number from 12 to 8 after moving from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets, and later to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The main reason for this change was respect for the Jets' retired No. 12, famously worn by Hall of Famer Joe Namath, whose number Rodgers declined to wear despite Namath's offer to unretire it. Instead, Rodgers chose to wear No. 8, which is his college number from the University of California. He has continued to wear No. 8 with the Steelers as well, embracing this number as a fresh start in his career after a long tenure wearing No. 12 with the Packers.
