Texts are sending as SMS (green bubbles) instead of iMessage (blue bubbles) mainly because iMessage is not available. This can happen if:
- The recipient does not have an Apple device or has turned off iMessage.
- Your or the recipient's device is not connected to the internet (Wi-Fi or cellular data).
- iMessage service is temporarily down or unavailable.
- Your iMessage settings are off or need to be reset.
- After switching to a new device, iMessage settings may take time to sync.
iPhone automatically sends messages as SMS to ensure delivery when iMessage cannot be used. There is also a setting in iPhone's Messages settings called "Send as SMS" that, if turned on, allows the phone to fallback to SMS if iMessage fails. Disabling this will stop automatic switching to SMS but might result in undelivered messages if iMessage is unavailable.
