The main reasons why hands may always feel cold include poor circulation, which restricts warm blood from reaching the extremities. This can be caused by conditions like peripheral artery disease, anemia, diabetes, or thyroid problems such as hypothyroidism. Another major cause is Raynaud's syndrome, where the arteries in the fingers constrict excessively in response to cold or stress, reducing blood flow and causing coldness, numbness, and color changes in the fingers. Stress, smoking, vitamin deficiencies (especially B12), and high cholesterol can also contribute to cold hands. If hands are cold due to environmental exposure, it is a normal body reaction to conserve core warmth by limiting blood flow to the hands and feet. However, persistently cold hands without environmental cause might indicate an underlying health condition requiring medical evaluation.
