The next president of Nigeria, following the 2023 presidential election, is Bola Tinubu. He was declared the winner of the election held on February 25, 2023, with about 8.8 million votes, representing 36.61% of the total votes. He defeated main contenders Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party. Bola Tinubu met the constitutional requirement of securing the most votes and at least 25% of the votes in two-thirds of Nigeria's 36 states, and he was officially announced as president-elect by Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission. The inauguration was held on May 29, 2023.
