The members of the Triple Entente were:
- The Russian Empire
- The French Third Republic
- The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland
This informal understanding was built upon three key agreements: the Franco- Russian Alliance of 1894, the Entente Cordiale between France and Britain in 1904, and the Anglo-Russian Entente of 1907. The Triple Entente was formed primarily as a counterbalance to the Triple Alliance of Germany, Austria- Hungary, and Italy and was a significant factor leading up to World War I
