The lead in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 uprising was initially taken by university students in Budapest. They appealed to the civil populace to join them at the Hungarian Parliament Building to protest against Soviet domination and the Stalinist government. The uprising began on October 23, 1956, when students presented demands for political and economic reforms.
