Modelo beer is owned by two main entities depending on the geographic market:
- Outside the United States: Modelo is owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev), the world's largest brewing company. AB InBev acquired Grupo Modelo, the Mexican brewery behind Modelo, in 2013 after purchasing the remaining 50% stake for $20.1 billion
- Inside the United States: Due to antitrust regulations during the AB InBev acquisition, the rights to import, market, and sell Modelo in the U.S. were sold to Constellation Brands, a New York-based beverage company. Constellation Brands holds the exclusive license for Modelo in the U.S., where it brews and distributes the beer
In summary, Anheuser-Busch InBev owns Modelo globally except for the U.S. market, where Constellation Brands controls the brand's rights and distribution
