who made spongebob

SpongeBob SquarePants was created by Stephen Hillenburg, an American animator and marine biology educator. He developed the show from his background in marine science and animation, initially inspired by an educational comic he made called The Intertidal Zone. The series premiered on Nickelodeon in 1999 and became a hugely successful and iconic cartoon.
