Alexander McQueen, born Lee Alexander McQueen (March 17, 1969 – February 11, 2010), was a British fashion designer and couturier renowned for his groundbreaking and theatrical fashion designs. He founded his own label "Alexander McQueen" in 1992 and was the chief designer at Givenchy from 1996 to 2001. McQueen was celebrated for his precise tailoring, innovative designs, dramatic fashion shows, and influence on contemporary fashion. His early work included radically low-cut "bumster" trousers which gained wide recognition. He won numerous awards including four British Designer of the Year awards and the Council of Fashion Designers of America's International Designer of the Year award in 2003. Tragically, McQueen died by suicide in 2010 shortly after the death of his mother. After his death, his longtime collaborator Sarah Burton took over as creative director of his fashion house.
