LEGO was invented by Ole Kirk Christiansen, a Danish carpenter. He began making wooden toys in the 1930s and eventually founded the LEGO company in 1932. The iconic LEGO bricks were developed later, with the company producing the first plastic "Automatic Binding Bricks" in 1949, inspired by an earlier British design. The final patented LEGO brick design, which could interlock securely, was patented in 1958 by Ole Kirk Christiansen's son, Godtfred Kirk Christiansen, after Ole's death that same year.
