Two deaths were reported at Burning Man 2023.
- Leon Reece , 32 years old, was found unresponsive on September 1 in Nevada's Black Rock Desert during heavy rains and muddy conditions. His cause of death was confirmed as an accident due to acute toxicity from cocaine, ethanol (alcohol), and MDMA (Ecstasy or Molly).
- Kendra Frazer , 39 years old, was found unresponsive on the first day of the festival around 11:30 a.m. Her cause of death is still under investigation pending autopsy and toxicology results. Officials have not released more details out of respect for the family.
Additionally, Burning Man organizers and local authorities cooperated to investigate the deaths amid challenging weather conditions that caused flooding and mud trapping many attendees.
