The World Wide Web was created by Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee, an English computer scientist. He invented it in 1989 while working at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Berners-Lee wrote the first proposal for the Web in March 1989, implemented the first successful communication between an HTTP client and server by the end of 1990, and developed the first web browser and server. The Web was originally conceived to facilitate automated information-sharing among scientists globally. Berners-Lee made the technology freely available and later founded the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) for its ongoing development and standardization.
