In winter, a ceiling fan should turn clockwise when you look up at it. This helps push warm air that has risen to the ceiling back down along the walls without creating a chilly breeze.
Correct fan direction
Set the fan to rotate clockwise at a low speed so it creates a gentle updraft instead of a strong downward breeze. This circulation pulls cooler air up and pushes trapped warm air down into the living space, making the room feel warmer and easing the load on your heating system.
How to check it
Stand under the running fan and look at the blades; in winter mode they should move from left to right, like the hands of a clock when viewed from below. If you feel strong air blowing straight down, switch the direction so the airflow is more subtle and indirect.
