The two men involved in the Bondi Beach shooting on 14 December 2025 were a father and son from south‑west Sydney, specifically from the suburb of Bonnyrigg.
Their background
The older gunman was Sajid Akram, aged 50, who had lived in Australia for many years and ran a fruit shop in the south‑west of Sydney. He originally came to Australia on a student visa in 1998 and was later a licensed firearms holder with six registered guns.
His son, Naveed Akram, aged 24, was born in Australia and also lived in Bonnyrigg with his family. He was known to Australian security agencies (ASIO) but had not been assessed as an immediate threat before the attack.
Connection to the attack
Police confirmed that the two men were the only suspects directly involved in the shooting at the Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach. Sajid Akram was shot dead by police at the scene, while Naveed Akram was arrested with serious injuries and taken to hospital under police guard.
