Leif Erikson was from Iceland. He was born around 970 CE in Iceland, the son of Erik the Red and his wife Thjodhild. Although he spent his early childhood in Iceland, he moved to Greenland with his family as a child when his father Erik the Red settled there. Leif Erikson is famous as a Norse explorer who later became the first European to set foot in North America, over 500 years before Christopher Columbus.
