The Pilgrims first landed in the New World at Provincetown Harbor, located at the tip of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, on November 11, 1620. This was their initial landing spot before they moved on to Plymouth about five weeks later. The Mayflower Pilgrims signed the Mayflower Compact while still anchored in Provincetown Harbor, marking the beginning of their self-governance in the New World. Provincetown commemorates this first landing with the Pilgrim Monument and Pilgrims' First Landing Park. The famous Plymouth Rock landing occurred later, on December 16, 1620, when the Pilgrims settled in Plymouth, but this was not their first landing
