Tunisia is a country located in the Maghreb region of North Africa. It is bordered by Algeria to the west and southwest, Libya to the southeast, and the Mediterranean Sea to the north and east. Tunisia lies between latitudes 30° and 38°N and longitudes 7° and 12°E, making it the northernmost country on the African continent. Its capital and largest city is Tunis, situated on the northeastern coast. The country covers an area of about 163,610 square kilometers (63,170 square miles) and features diverse geography including the eastern end of the Atlas Mountains and the northern reaches of the Sahara Desert.
