Troy is an ancient city located in present-day Hisarlik, Turkey. It is situated near the northwest coast of Turkey, close to the Aegean Sea, about 4.8 kilometers (3 miles) from the southern entrance to the Dardanelles Strait. The site is recognized for its archaeological significance and is linked to the Greek myth of the Trojan War. Troy was mentioned in ancient literature, most famously in Homer's Iliad, and has a rich history spanning about 4,000 years of occupation with multiple layers of cities built on the site over time. Today, the archaeological site of Troy is open to the public and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
