Liverpool is a city located in North West England, United Kingdom. It lies on the eastern side of the River Mersey estuary, near the Irish Sea, and is part of the metropolitan county of Merseyside. Liverpool is about 176 miles northwest of London and approximately 35 miles west of Manchester. The city is known for its rich history as a major port, its cultural significance, and being the birthplace of The Beatles. Liverpool has a population of around 500,000 with a metropolitan area population of over 2 million, making it the fifth largest metropolitan area in the UK.
