Haiti is a country located in the Caribbean Sea, occupying the western one- third of the island of Hispaniola. It shares the island with the Dominican Republic, which occupies the eastern two-thirds. Haiti is situated between the Caribbean Sea to the south and west, and the North Atlantic Ocean to the north. It lies east of Cuba and Jamaica, with Cuba about 77 km to the northwest across the Windward Passage, and Jamaica roughly 120 miles to the west across the Jamaica Channel. The country has a coastline of approximately 1,771 km and borders the Dominican Republic to the east with a land border of about 360 km
. The capital and largest city of Haiti is Port-au-Prince. Haiti is mountainous, with its highest peak being Pic la Selle at nearly 2,680 meters (8,793 feet)
