The Gaza Strip is a self-governing Palestinian territory located along the eastern coastline of the Mediterranean Sea. It lies in the southwestern corner of the Palestinian territories, bordering Egypt to the south and Israel to the north and east. It covers about 360 square kilometers (140 square miles) and has a Mediterranean coastline of approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles). The largest and capital city is Gaza City. The Gaza Strip is highly densely populated and strategically significant in the Israel-Palestine conflict.
