The Pyrenees Mountains are a mountain range in southwestern Europe that forms a natural border between Spain and France. They stretch about 500 kilometers (around 310 miles) from the Bay of Biscay (Atlantic Ocean) in the west to the Mediterranean Sea in the east. The tiny country of Andorra lies entirely within the Pyrenees. This range separates the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of continental Europe, with notable peaks including Aneto, the highest at 3,404 meters (11,168 feet). Politically, the range is divided between several provinces in Spain (such as Barcelona, Girona, Huesca, Lleida, and Navarra) and departments in France (such as Ariège, Aude, Haute-Garonne, Hautes- Pyrénées). The Pyrenees are known for their rugged terrain, high waterfalls, and diverse natural parks on both sides.
