The Giants in mythology are primarily from Greek and Roman mythology, known as the Gigantes. They were a race born from Gaia (Earth) when the blood of Uranus (Sky) fell upon her after his castration by Cronus. These Giants were strong and aggressive beings who fought against the Olympian gods in a battle called the Gigantomachy. They are said to have originated from places like Phlegra (also known as Pallene) in Greece, with various traditions placing their birth and battles in regions such as Thessaly, the Peloponnese, and even volcanic areas like the Phlegraean Fields near Naples in Italy. Some Giants were thought to be buried under volcanoes, which explained volcanic eruptions and earthquakes.
Additionally, "Giants" can also refer to famous sports teams, such as the San Francisco Giants (baseball) originally from New York, and the New York Giants (American football), but mythologically, the origin relates to the Greek mythological race born of Gaia and Uranus.
