Lymph nodes in the neck, known as cervical lymph nodes, are small, bean- or kidney-shaped glands located in several areas:
- Along the front, sides, and back of the neck
- Under the jaw and chin
- In front of and behind the ears
- Above the collarbone (supraclavicular area)
- Down each side of the back of the neck
They form chains or clusters along lymphatic vessels in these regions, acting as filters to trap viruses, bacteria, and other harmful substances as part of the immune system
. There are about 300 lymph nodes in the neck out of approximately 800 in the whole body
. These nodes can usually be felt when swollen due to infection, inflammation, or other conditions. To feel the lymph nodes in the neck, one can gently press under the muscles by tilting the head to relax the area
. In summary, cervical lymph nodes are distributed throughout the neck area including the front, sides, back, under the jaw, and above the collarbone, serving as important immune system filters
