The conclave to elect the new pope in 2025 began on May 7th. This date was set by the cardinals gathered in Rome and the conclave was held in the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel. The conclave started 16 days after the death of Pope Francis on April 21, 2025. On May 7th, the cardinal electors gathered to begin the voting process to choose the 267th pope.
