when will conclave start 2025

The conclave to elect the new pope will start on May 7, 2025. This date was agreed upon by the Cardinals present in Rome during the fifth General Congregation at the Vatican. The conclave will take place in the Sistine Chapel and is set to begin 16 days after the death of Pope Francis, following the traditional 15- to 20-day period after a papal vacancy to allow the mourning period and for cardinal electors to arrive from around the world. On the first day, the cardinals will celebrate a Mass and then process into the Sistine Chapel to begin voting for the new pope. The conclave will continue until a candidate receives a two-thirds majority vote.
