The Constitutional Convention took place in Philadelphia from May 25 to September 17, 1787. It was initially called to revise the Articles of Confederation, but instead, the delegates created a new Constitution for the United States. George Washington was elected to preside over the convention, which resulted in drafting and signing the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787.
