The United States Constitution was written during the Constitutional Convention held in Philadelphia from May 25 to September 17, 1787. It was signed by the delegates on September 17, 1787. The Constitution was subsequently sent to the states for ratification, a process that required approval by nine of the thirteen states. This ratification was completed on June 21, 1788, when New Hampshire became the ninth state to approve it, officially establishing the Constitution as the framework for the government of the United States.
