Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968. He was fatally shot at 6:01 p.m. CST while standing on the balcony outside his second-floor room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. He was pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital at the age of 39.
