when was dune written

The novel "Dune" was written by Frank Herbert and originally published as two separate serials in Analog magazine from December 1963 to May 1965. It was then published in book form in August 1965. Herbert spent about five years researching, writing, and revising the novel before its publication. Despite initial rejections from more than twenty publishers, "Dune" went on to win the inaugural Nebula Award for Best Novel in 1966 and share the Hugo Award for Best Novel. It is considered one of the best-selling and most influential science fiction novels in history.
