Coca-Cola was invented on May 8, 1886, by Dr. John Stith Pemberton, a pharmacist in Atlanta, Georgia. He originally created it as a medicinal "nerve tonic" to replace his alcohol-based French Wine Coca. The first glass of Coca- Cola was sold at Jacobs' Pharmacy in Atlanta for five cents. Initially, it was marketed as a patent medicine addressing ailments such as headaches and fatigue. The drink contained cocaine in its original formula but was reformulated to remove cocaine by 1903. This invention marked the beginning of what would become the global Coca-Cola brand and transformed the beverage industry worldwide.
