when was chipotle founded

Chipotle Mexican Grill was founded by Steve Ells on July 13, 1993. The first location was opened in Denver, Colorado, in a remodeled ice cream shop near the University of Denver campus. Ells was inspired to start Chipotle after visiting taquerias and burrito shops in San Francisco's Mission District while working as a chef.
