The first Ohio State football game was played on May 3, 1890. It was against Ohio Wesleyan University, and Ohio State won the game 20–14. This game was played on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, Ohio. The team did not have a coach at that time and was organized and captained by senior Jesse Lee Jones.
