The US stock market opens at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time (ET) and closes at 4:00 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday. It is closed on weekends. These hours apply to the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq, the two main stock exchanges in the US. There are also extended hours for trading before and after the regular market hours:
- Pre-market trading: 4:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. ET
- After-hours trading: 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET
In other US time zones, the opening times are:
- Central Time: 8:30 a.m.
- Mountain Time: 7:30 a.m.
- Pacific Time: 6:30 a.m.
