The special election period (SEP) for dual-eligible individuals and those with low-income subsidies (LIS) will change starting in 2025. The quarterly SEP that ended on September 30, 2024, will be replaced by a new monthly SEP beginning January 1, 2025. This new SEP allows full dual-eligible beneficiaries to make monthly elections to enroll in or switch certain Medicare plans, such as integrated Dual Special Needs Plans (HIDE/FIDE SNPs), or switch from a Medicare Advantage plan to Original Medicare with a Prescription Drug Plan (PDP). The SEP is specifically designed for individuals who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid or who are receiving Extra Help, thus allowing more frequent plan changes during the year.
