Photosynthesis takes place during the daytime when there is light because it requires sunlight to occur. This process happens inside chloroplasts in plant cells, where chlorophyll absorbs the light energy needed to drive photosynthesis. Plants use carbon dioxide from the air and water from the ground, and with the help of light energy from the sun, they produce glucose (sugar) and oxygen. Photosynthesis only happens in the light because it relies on the light-dependent reactions that absorb sunlight energy to fuel the process.
